KRZYSZTOF WODICZKO
LA VUE-LA COURNEUVE

Galerie Gabrielle Maubrie, Paris, 1992

Onto two opposite walls of the gallery the artist projected two images of one of the gallery’s windows. One image showed the window closed, while the other showed it open but looking out to not what is actually visible from the gallery – a fragment of the wealthy neighborhood of Le Marais – but to a building photographed by the artist in La Courneuve, a poor neighborhood in the northern outskirts of Paris, inhabited mainly by immigrants from the former French colonies in Africa.
